Sivananda
Math - Sivananda Math is a social and charitable society registered under
the Societies Registration Act, 1860, vide registration no. 253/84-45 with the
Inspector General (Registrations), Patna, Bihar. It was founded by Paramahamsa
Satyananda at Munger in 1984 in memory of his Guru, Swami Sivananda Saraswati of
Rishikesh. The aim of the institution is to facilitate the growth of the weaker
and underdeveloped sections of the society, especially in the rural areas, by
following the precepts of seva (service), karuna (compassion), prem
(love) and sneha (affection).
Bihar
School of Yoga - The Bihar School of Yoga was founded in 1964 by Paramahamsa
Satyananda to impart yogic training to householders and sannyasins alike.
The Yoga techniques developed there are a synthesis of many approaches to
personal development, based on traditional vedantic, tantric and yogic teachings
in conjunction with contemporary physical and mental health sciences. Today,
these techniques are taught by Bihar Yoga Bharati and through the programmes
outlined below. Bihar School of Yoga also guides yoga projects and medical
research in association with prestigious hospitals, organisations and
establishments. Programs made by Bihar School of Yoga are being used today in
the education and prison Government sectors, in hospitals, by the Defence
Services, private and public sector industries such as Indian Oil Corporation,
Coal India Limited, National Thermal Power Corporation, Oil and Natural Gas
Corporation, the Steel Authority of India, Hindusthan Paper Corporation,
Hindusthan Copper Corporation and many more.
Bihar
Yoga Bharati - Bihar Yoga Bharati (BYB) is dedicated to the study of yoga in
a gurukul*
environment, providing a spiritual oasis in the technological desert of the 21st
century. Founded in 1994 in order to preserve and regenerate the total scope of
yogic science by combining academic and scientific methodology with a spiritual
vision. BYB offers scholars, scientists, doctors and yoga aspirants from all
parts of the world a golden opportunity to work together to formulate a
scientific basis for the growth, expansion and rapid integration of yoga into
modern society.
* What
is a Gurukul? Normally
an educational institution focuses solely on academic goals, whereas a gurukul
environment combines both intellectual and experiential learning, aiming towards
the holistic growth of the student. Emphasis is laid on both the mental and
spiritual development of the student. "Education
is not the amassing of information and its purpose is not mere career hunting.
It is a means of developing a fully integrated personality and enabling one to
grow effectively into the likeness of the ideal that one has set before oneself.
Education is a drawing out from within of the highest and best qualities
inherent in the individual. It is training in the art of living." Swami
Sivananda Saraswati
